  • Becoming A Vegetarian – Daily Nutritional Requirements – Vitamins And Minerals Posted by becomingavegetarian on March 30th, 2010 at 2:41 pm
If you can you really do need to meet all the requirements you can from your daily food intake. Part of your reasoning for becoming a vegetarian was most likely because you wanted to lead a healthier lifestyle so cutting out meat from your diet and then just relying on popping supplements to meet your daily needs is not converting to a healthier lifestyle. It is not difficult to get everything you need as long as you make informed choices about your vegetarian diet plan. It is of course perfe...

  • Types Of Vegetrarian – Semi-Vegetarian Posted by becomingavegetarian on March 25th, 2010 at 7:12 am
Well I left the controversial one until last! Most hardcore vegetarian evengalists state categorically that you cannot be a semi-vegetarian. You are either vegetarian or you are not. From my perspective becoming a vegetarian was a health and environmental choice. I am not evangelical about vegetarianism and I think I will always aspire to be vegan but never quite get there. The easiest route to becoming a vegetarian is to start to exclude animal products from your diet one by one until you ge...

  • Types of Vegetarian – Fruitarian Posted by becomingavegetarian on February 24th, 2010 at 12:48 pm
I have to admit that I haven't actually met a fruitarian although I do have online acquaintances that practice this form of vegetarianism. That means that I am fairly sure that this type of vegetarian exists out there. If you lurk around enough forums you will of course come across some... Balancing your diet as a vegetarian is one of the most important tasks that you have that enable you to stay healthy. This is especially key if you are intending to be a fruitarian because your sources for ...

  • Types of Vegetarians – Ovo-Vegetarian Posted by becomingavegetarian on August 15th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Ovo-Vegetarians eat eggs along with their diet of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, pulses and so on. The do not consume dairy products or meat of any kind. You will often find that Ovo-Vegetarians made their choice because they are lactose intolerant. There are of course always exceptions to that rule. I am lactose intolerant but I am actually a Lacto-Vegetarian. You may ask yourself how a vegetarian can be a vegetarian if they in fact consume eggs, well it is a fairly easy qu...

  • Types of Vegetarians – Raw-Vegetarian Posted by becomingavegetarian on August 11th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
This is a fairly rare form of vegetarianism but it does have some following. With this type of vegetarian you can either be vegan or a vegetarian (lacto, ovo or lacto-ovo). I don't think that I have ever considered becoming a vegetarian in this form. The principles behind it are that when food is cooked it loses some of it's nutrients and is therefore not as beneficial for consumption. There is quite a bit of research out there that argues the point either way. To be perfectl...

  • Types of Vegetarians – Lacto-Vegetarian Posted by becomingavegetarian on August 10th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Well I guess that this is the category that I fall into!A Lacto vegetarian is someone who doesn't consume any meat from animals but does eat dairy products. You will often find that lacto-vegetarians make sure that the dairy products that they do consume are ethically sourced via free range/organic products from a verifiable market place. The benefits of being a Lacto-Vegetarian are many:You have a greater range of products from which to obtain your daily nutrients. You will be able to get B12 ...

  • Types of Vegetarian – Vegan Posted by becomingavegetarian on August 10th, 2009 at 7:59 am
Let me start this by saying that I am not Vegan, many of my friends and family are though so I do have experience of the trials and tribulations of being Vegan. When deciding that becoming a vegetarian is something that you want to consider then depending what the motives are behind this decision you may wish to consider being Vegan. Being Vegan is a complete change in lifestyle. Of all the types of vegetarian it is the strictest form and not a decision to be taken lightly. Generally this is ...

There are a whole heap of varieties of vegetarianism. Depending on your stance you may or may not agree with that last statement I just made. There is quite a lot of debate within the vegetarian community about whether or not you can class yourself as a vegetarian if you consume any part of an animal, bird, insect or fish. I've probably forgotten a category or two but you get my gist. To be perfectly frank with you I am a believer of each to his or her own, whatever feels right for you and you...
